Replacement Of Downtown Water Mains Complete

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Public Works officials say replacement of water mains near the Inner Harbor, one of which broke last month, disrupting traffic for weeks, is complete.

The 20-inch main broke July 16 on Light Street. Officials decided to replace the entire multi-block main. A parallel 10-inch main was also replaced, as well as a 12-inch main. Baltimore public works officials noted that the infrastructure was more than 100 years old.

New valves and fire hydrants are also part of the infrastructure replacement.

Repaving of the road will begin this week. Officials expect the roads to be open on Aug. 20.
