Police: 3 Md. Men Stole $35K In Fuel In Pa.

LOGANVILLE, Pa. (AP) -- Police say three Maryland men accused of stealing $35,000 in diesel fuel in the last two months were taken into custody in central Pennsylvania.

Investigators say the men used Panera Bread gift cards to carry stolen credit card information to buy the fuel. The thefts were discovered after Rutter's Farm Store received a disputed purchase complaint.

The store called police after two vehicles matching those spotted in surveillance footage arrived and began pumping gas on Saturday.

Investigators say Ricky Ray Evans, of Gwynn Oak, Md., had 18 gift cards. Glenn Keller, of Parkville, Md. and Kenneth Reed, of Baltimore, allegedly had one each.

The York Daily Record reports Evans allegedly told police they were part of larger scam to transport the illicitly purchased fuel to Maryland.

It was not immediately clear if the men had attorneys.
