Md. Chlorine Leak Capped, No Injuries

CASCADE, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say they have contained a chlorine leak at a water treatment plant in Washington County and no injuries have been reported.

Kevin Jones, a rescue sergeant with the Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Co., tells The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the leak was reported about 7:30 a.m. Monday at a water treatment plant off Pen Mar Road near Fort Ritchie. Jones says the leak in a tank valve is believed to have started Sunday night.

He says about four pounds of chlorine escaped before the leak was stopped.

The plant serves the Cascade and Pen Mar areas.
