DC Cathedral To Mark 9/11 With Prayers For Healing

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington National Cathedral plans to mark the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with prayers at its regularly scheduled services that day, rather than hold a larger commemoration event.

Worship services are planned Tuesday beginning with Holy Eucharist at 8:45 a.m. and a morning prayer service at 8:45 a.m. The cathedral also hosts a noon service and a choral service at 5:30 p.m.

In past years, the cathedral hosted a larger commemoration that included presidents and other leaders.

Rev. Dr. Francis Wade, interim dean of the cathedral, says part of the church's ministry is to help the country heal and move past the tragedy of 9/11. In a statement, Wade says the cathedral will again mark the anniversary with prayers for the victims and for military service members.
