Elkton Woman Wins First Md. Ice Cream Award

ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- An Elkton woman is the winner of the first Maryland's Best Ice Cream Trailblazer award.

The Cecil Whig reports that Dawn Farris is this year's winner.

Farris was among 170 people who entered the contest by visiting all seven creameries on Maryland's new Ice Cream Trail which was created earlier this year. The creameries are each based at a dairy farm in the state.

Participants in the contest collected a stamp at each of the creameries and then mailed their completed entry form to the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

Farris won a $50 gift certificate to her favorite creamery, a DVD documentary about Maryland chefs and a cookbook.
