Shooting Outside D.C. School; Person In Custody

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A suspect is in custody after a shooting on the grounds of a District of Columbia public high school that injured a student.

The shooting took place Wednesday afternoon outside Coolidge Senior High School as classes were being dismissed.

Police say a male student was shot in the leg, but suffered non-life threatening injuries. Another student was taken into custody after the shooting, and police say they've recovered a weapon. Officers say the shooting came after an argument between the two students.

The names of the person in custody and the shooting victim weren't immediately released.

Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson called the shooting an isolated incident. She said extra staff would be at the school in northwest Washington on Thursday.

The school was placed on lockdown after the shooting.
