Columbus Day Weekend Brings Detours, Delay

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Columbus Day holiday is bringing construction and transportation detours across the Washington region.

Northbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway north of Spout Run are closed until Monday morning for rock stabilization work.

Metro is using the holiday weekend for an extra day of maintenance. Track work will continue through Monday on the red and orange lines, so riders should expect delays.

On Monday, Metro opens at 5 a.m. and will close at midnight. But trains will be operating on a Saturday schedule. Parking at Metro lots will be free. Buses will also operate on Saturday schedules.

Residential parking restrictions and street sweeping is suspended in the District of Columbia for the holiday. Parking fees are also suspended in Arlington and Alexandria but not in Montgomery County.
