BROOKLYN PARK, Md. (AP) — A 50-year-old man is dead after an altercation with another man in Brooklyn Park.

Anne Arundel County police say an officer found Nick Gartelman in distress on Friday night, and firefighters provided first aid. Gartelman died later at a local hospital.

Officers had been called to the scene for the report of an assault. A preliminary investigation revealed Gartelman was involved in an altercation before officers arrived.

The cause of death was not immediately determined. Police are investigating the death as a homicide.
