WEATHER BLOG: Chance For Severe Thunderstorms On Monday

What a warm up! After only making it to 58 degrees Saturday, we topped out at 74 degrees Sunday. We are going to hang on to this warm air a little while longer. Temperatures will not drop much Sunday night, then rise to near 70 degrees again Monday. That's before a cold front comes swinging through the state.

Clouds will thicken, then rain will arrive Monday. There is even the chance for some strong thunderstorms to break out. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted an area from I-95 southeast to the Atlantic for a heightened risk of severe thunderstorms. Any thunderstorms that do form will move away Monday night as the front takes the stormy weather with it out to sea.

Southerly winds will turn around to the northwest Tuesday. That's going to be a drier, cooler wind for us. However, this cooldown will not be as drastic as the last one. Highs will only drop to the mid 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. We will rise back up to near or above 70 degrees for the end of the week - just as another front moves our way with the chance for some rain Thursday night into Friday.
