ELKTON, Md. (AP) — The town of Elkton has agreed to pay $235,000 to settle an age discrimination lawsuit brought on behalf of a former assistant town manager.

The U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission sued the town on behalf of Andrew Johnson. The commission alleged town officials openly discussed replacing him in 2007 because he was 70. The town ultimately replaced him with two substantially younger employees.

In addition to the money payment the town has agreed to implement a policy prohibiting age discrimination and provide annual training on a law that bans age discrimination.

The agreement was announced last week.
