Man Accused Of Hitting Father With Tire Iron

OLDTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Allegany County Sheriff's Office has charged a man deputies say hit his father with a tire iron.

Joseph Henry Dowell, 48, is charged with assault and reckless endangerment.

Deputies say about 2:35 a.m. Sunday, Joseph Dowell and his father, 68-year-old Calvin Dowell, were in a car in Oldtown. Authorities say Joseph Dowell got a tire iron from the truck of the vehicle, shattered the window where Calvin Dowell was sitting and repeatedly hit Calvin Dowell with the implement.

Deputies tell The Cumberland Times-News that Calvin Dowell cut his son with a pocket knife before fleeing into the woods.

Calvin Dowell had injuries to his hands and one leg and was treated at the scene.
