College Student Questioned Over Shooting Comments

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Tense moments at Montgomery College after a scorned lover threatened to shoot up the campus.

Rochelle Ritchie has more.

A broken heart appears to be the motive behind the student's threats. Witnesses say the student wanted to get revenge on anyone.

A scare on Montgomery College campus ended after an intense search for a 19-year-old student made comments not to be taken lightly.

"I was worried. I didn't know what was going on and nobody else seemed to know either," said Jessica Dudley.

A campus spokesperson says the student told friends he had just ended a relationship and felt like shooting people just for fun.

"I don't like it. I don't like it at all," said a student.

The students wasted no time taking their concerns to campus security.

"They only initially had a first name so they had to identify the last name and then find out where that student might be on campus," said Elizabeth Homan.

Rockville police were called to track down the unarmed student near the campus' cafeteria. They took him into custody.

"He looked like a normal student. You wouldn't suspect him of carrying out anything like that," said Akash Syngal.

With college shootings all too common, the school took no chances.

"Things have happened in the past at other campuses and at other schools, so it scares you even more," said Deepika Beribal.

Despite the intense search, school officials didn't think there was a serious threat.

Right now, it's not clear what charges the student will face.
