BSO Expands Music In Montgomery County Schools

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is expanding its collaboration with Montgomery County Public Schools to enhance music programs in schools with the greatest needs.

The orchestra announced a new program Wednesday called OrchLab that will expand music offerings to middle and high school students with classroom instruction and performances. It will begin as a pilot program in 23 schools to target lower income students.

Student musicians participating in the program can have up to three mentorship visits from BSO musicians. The students also will be able to attend a BSO concert at The Music Center at Strathmore.

Instrumental music teachers also will have professional development with the BSO.

The BSO also works with students in the Baltimore City Public Schools. The BSO performs in both Baltimore and in Montgomery County.
