Man Escapes As SUV Sinks In Creek

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A man who accidentally backed his SUV into a creek in Annapolis has escaped unharmed.

Colin Willett tells The Capital of Annapolis that on Wednesday afternoon, he was backing up his SUV to pick up a small dinghy at Weems Creek, where he was tending to his sailboat.

Willett says his wet feet slipped and he hit the accelerator. He says the SUV quickly drifted into the water and started to sink.

Willett says he couldn't open the vehicle's door but was able to squeeze out through a window. He climbed on top of the roof, and a bystander brought a boat around and rescued him.

The SUV was almost completely submerged.
