89-Year-Old Pasadena Woman Attacked By Pit Bull

PASADENA, Md. (WJZ)—An elderly woman is rushed to the hospital after being attacked by a neighbor's dog. This latest incident comes as the stand-off over pit bulls in Maryland heats up.

In Anne Arundel County, Medics are called to the 200-block of Arundel Road when police say an 89-year old Pasadena woman is mauled by a pit bull.

"It's disturbing to me to think that there's an animal so close that could cause me potential harm," said Vanessa Feeheley.

Neighbors tell WJZ, the Riviera Beach neighborhood is very dog-friendly. Now they're fearful for their own safety.

"I don't want to have to ward off an unleashed pet to protect myself or my dog," Feeheley said.

"I think it's wrong to have pit bulls attack other dogs and people," one neighbor said.

Police say, the victim was in her fenced yard when the dog grabbed a hold of her upper arm and wouldn't let go.

The woman was brought to the hand center at Union Memorial Hospital.

Wednesday's attack is the latest in a number of pit bull cases across Maryland.

In a recent ruling, the Maryland Court of Appeals labels pit bulls inherently dangerous and holds a dog's owner and their landlord responsible for an attack.

Now some pit bull owners are being told to get rid of their pet or get out.

"If my girls are taken away from me, my world will be destroyed," one pit bull owner said.

In Pasadena, the pit bull was taken to animal control, where officers are investigating the attack.

The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
