CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)—For the second time in eight months, a newborn baby is found dead in Southern Maryland. Homeowners find the tiny body, badly decomposed, while cleaning out their attic in Charles County.

Meghan McCorkell has details of this disturbing case and the possible link to another dead baby.

A terrifying discovery in a home on Royal Oak Drive near La Plata.

“They said that they were cleaning out their attic, and they came across the badly decomposed remains of what appears to be a newborn,” said Diane Richardson, Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Sources say the newborn was stuffed in a suitcase in the attic.

People close to the investigation say there’s a possibility the mother who gave birth to this baby is the same woman whose newborn was found in the trunk of her car back in March.

“We’re looking into that possibility. Right now we have not identified the mother of the remains that were found at the house in Charles County,” Richardson said.

In the other case, the woman’s parents were cleaning out her car that was parked in a mobile home park in the Prince Frederick area of Calvert County. That’s where they found the fetus or newborn baby.

Sources say the mother in that case has a relationship with people at both homes where the babies were found, linking her to both locations.

The mother was never charged in connection with the case in March.

The mother in question has three other children. Detectives are still waiting for autopsy results on the La Plata remains.
