Salisbury Zoo Director Leaving For New Orleans Job

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- The director of the Salisbury Zoo is leaving to become vice president and general curator of the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.

The Daily Times reports that Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton announced Joel Hamilton's departure at a dedication ceremony Friday for the zoo's new Australia exhibit.

Hamilton says it's an opportunity to work in a "larger facility with a wider variety of animals." He says he will miss Salisbury.

Under Hamilton, the zoo has unveiled a new logo and website, broken ground for a new animal health clinic and shored up its fundraising.
