Man Sentenced In Hammer Attack On His Mother
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Cape St. Claire man has been sentenced to six years in prison for repeatedly striking his mother in the head with a hammer, fracturing her skull.
Thirty-four-year-old Robert Benscoter had pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder. He was sentenced on Tuesday.
Prosecutors say on March 20, Benscoter hit his 61-year-old mother several times with a hammer. She was able to escape to a neighbor's house and call police.
The Capital of Annapolis reports that Benscoter apologized in court, saying he would never forgive himself. His mother did not attend the sentencing.
