Bomb Squad Neutralizes Device In College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County fire officials say a bomb squad has neutralized a possible homemade bomb in College Park.

Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says authorities found the device early Friday morning on Edgewood Road, about a mile north of the University of Maryland campus. He says it appeared to have all the components necessary to explode.

Brady says an ongoing investigation led authorities to the location. On Monday, a small pipe bomb exploded on the porch of a home about a mile and a half from where the device was found Friday. Brady says it's possible the incidents are related.

He says he's not aware of any specific threats associated with the device.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are helping with the investigation.
