Police Officers Remove Woman From Burning Vehicle

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Two women were injured when their cars crashed in Westminster. One woman was pulled from her vehicle after it overturned and caught fire.

Maryland State police say it happened about 3 a.m. Friday on Md. 97.

Troopers say 18-year-old Casey Bellofatto of Sykesville was traveling south when her car crossed the center line and hit another car.

The Carroll County Times reports that Bellofatto's car overturned and caught fire. Cpl. Gunnar Burdt of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Howard County Police officer Craig Ream got her out of the car.

Bellofatto and the other driver, 63-year-old Christine Elizabeth Stamm of Westminster, were flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Bellofatto was in critical condition; Stamm in serious condition.

Ream was taken to a hospital for burns to his hands.
