Police Officer Pulls Teen From Burning Car In Md.

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Police say a Howard County police officer driving to work rescued a teenager from a burning car.

Police say Cpl. Craig Ream was driving on Route 97 in Carroll County around 3 a.m. Friday when he saw the burning car, which had rolled down an embankment after a crash and caught fire. Ream pulled over, crawled into the car, and dragged the driver outside.

The driver, 18-year-old Casey Bellofatto of Sykesville, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police say Bellofatto crossed into the northbound lane of the road and hit a 2000 Honda Accord head-on. The driver of the Accord, 63-year-old Christine Elizabeth Stamm, is in serious condition.

Ream, an 11-year veteran of the department, was treated at a hospital for burns, cuts and scrapes and released.
