WASHINGTON (AP) — The Kennedy Center is presenting the new ballet, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” produced by the National Ballet of Canada and London’s Royal Ballet.

Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon gives the classic children’s story a ballet treatment set to an original score. The ballet debuted in London in 2011, then moved to Canada and now makes its Washington debut. The companies shared the cost of mounting the new production.

The ballet opens Friday and runs through Jan. 27. Tickets range from $45 to $150.

The ballet is divided into three acts. The first contains many familiar elements of the original story, including the Mad Hatter’s tea party. The second act includes the Queen of Hearts’ croquet party.

The National Ballet of Canada last performed at the Kenned Center in 2006, presenting “Swan Lake.”
