BALTIMORE (AP) — Clancy Rugg posted his third double-double in six games and Vermont topped America East Conference-foe Maryland-Baltimore County 67-55 Saturday for its fourth straight win.

Rugg, once a walk-on player for the Catamounts, had 18 points and 10 rebounds in his eighth straight start. Trey Blue tallied 16 points, Luke Apfled added 13 and Brian Voelkel had a season-high 16 rebounds for Vermont, which controlled the boards 42-27.

UMBC (6-18, 4-7) drew the game to an early 4-4 tie but missed its next four shots as Vermont pulled ahead 13-4. Blue’s 3-pointer followed by a free throw gave the Catamounts a commanding 27-11 advantage.

Vermont (16-7, 9-2) outshot UMBC 41 percent (19 of 46) to 38 percent (20 of 52) but its real advantage came at the charity stripe, where the Catamounts made 23 shots compared to eight for the Retrievers.

Joey Getz and Brian Neller scored 12 each for UMBC.
