Prince George’s Police Investigate Shooting In College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County police are investigating a killing in College Park that they say appears to be gang-related.

Officials say 20-year-old David Esequel Avelar, of Hillcrest Heights, was fatally shot early Sunday after attending a party at a hotel on Baltimore Avenue.

Police say a fight between two groups broke out in the parking lot of the hotel, and Avelar was shot during the confrontation. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Detectives are still looking for the shooter.
