Water Main Break Restrictions Lifted In D.C. Suburbs

CHEVY CHASE, Md. (AP) -- The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission says water restrictions have been lifted for customers affected by a water main break in Chevy Chase.

WSSC spokesman I.J. Hudson said Saturday that while the repair is now complete, restoration of the area will take weeks. Hudson says repairs to the roadway and sidewalk, removal of damaged trees, and work on a nearby stream bed will require that the far right northbound lane on Connecticut Avenue remain closed near the break.

Mandatory water restrictions were put in place in Montgomery and Prince George's County after the break Monday that caused a 30-foot geyser.

Business and residential customers were asked to only use water as necessary. That included taking shorter showers, limiting flushing of toilets and cutting back the use of washing machines and dishwashers.
