July Sentencing Date Set For Aide To D.C. Mayor

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A judge has set a July sentencing date for a former campaign aide to District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray.

Thomas Gore, one of three Gray campaign aides to plead guilty to felonies, admitted making secret payments to another candidate and shredding records of the transactions.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly scheduled a July 26 sentencing after Gore's lawyer, Frederick Cooke, asked for a firm date so that his client could move on with his life. Prosecutors had previously asked to delay sentencing because of Gore's cooperation with an ongoing investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ellen Chubin Epstein raised no objection Thursday to proceeding to sentencing. But she said she wasn't making any promises about whether to seek a reduced sentence for Gore because of his cooperation.
