First Lady To Attend Signing Of Veterans Bill At Naval Academy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- First lady Michelle Obama will visit the United States Naval Academy on Wednesday before attending a bill signing at the Maryland State House.

The first lady will be present as Gov. Martin O'Malley signs into law the Veterans Full Employment Act of 2013.

The legislation will enable veterans who apply for occupational and professional licenses in Maryland to get credit for their military training, education and experience.

The bill requires public colleges and universities to develop policies to award academic credit for relevant military training and education. It also creates an expedited licensing procedure for veterans and military spouses who hold professional licenses in other states.

Obama will meet with service members who will be affected by the new legislation before the bill signing at the Naval Academy.

The first lady has made military families one of her top priorities. Her Joining Forces initiative connects service members, veterans, and military spouses with resources to find jobs.
