Woman Struck, Killed Crossing Downsville Road

DOWNSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a woman was struck and killed by a car as she was walking her dog across a road in Downsville.

It happened about 8:30 a.m. Thursday on Downsville Pike. Troopers say Elinor McLeod, 81, of Williamsport was walking east across the road when she was hit by a car.

Police say the driver, 49-year-old Mohamed A. Majeed of Fairplay, immediately stopped, called 911 and stayed at the scene.

McLeod was pronounced dead at the scene. The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that a family friend took McLeod's dog, who suffered a broken leg, to a vet.

Troopers say no charges have been filed.
