Community Shocked After Girl Accused Of Getting Her Boyfriend To Kill Her Father

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Howard County is still reeling after the death of a well-known real estate agent and father. His 14-year-old daughter is charged in the murder. Tuesday night, community members came together in his honor.

Kai Jackson has the latest in this stunning case.

As more details emerge about Dennis Lane's murder, his fellow Howard County residents are remembering a man with a commitment to his community.

The Howard County Community Foundation Spring Party has special meaning. Participants are dressed in red, Dennis Lane's favorite color.

"He was a presence in this community. He was a mover," said Earl Armiger.

Lane, a well-known blogger was murdered May 10 inside his Ellicott City home.

Shock over his death is also being felt at Mt. Hebron High.

"You think about how you walk past 'em every day and can't...you really can't believe how those people can do it. They really seemed harmless," said one student.

Lane's 14-year-old daughter, Morgan Arnold, was a student at Mt. Hebron, and so was her 19-year-old boyfriend, Jason Bulmer. The couple has been charged in a murder plot that Howard County police say Morgan hatched and Jason carried out.

"That's kinda crazy and a little bit unnecessary to kill someone's dad over just a pointless relationship," a student said.

Police haven't released a motive for Lane's murder yet.

Bulmer reportedly told detectives his girlfriend wanted her father stabbed in the throat 10 times. She allegedly told him, "I have my reasons and I'll tell you later."

"So many people in Howard County have questions," said Howard County Executive Ken Ulman. "How could this happen?"

According to charging documents, there was lengthy communication about the plot between Arnold and Bulmer prior to Dennis Lane's murder.
