Steve Davis: MLB Must Make Up Its Mind On DH

Oakland Athletics v Baltimore Orioles

Now that the Orioles are involved in interleague play, and baseball is playing interleague play every day, MLB really does need to decide on whether to have the DH in both leagues or neither.

It is dumb to have the 2 leagues playing each other when their rosters are stacked different ways. I would lean towards a DH in both leagues, since the pitchers are pretty inept. However, there aren't 30 good DH's, so it would defeat the purpose of the DH.

It was never designed to be used to give position players a day off, or take a bench player and rotate him in. It was to increase offensive production. However, there aren't enough guys to do it.

Here's a thought: allow each team to designate two players to be the DH. Those players are excused from drug testing and thus can take as many steroids as they want. That would the "hitter" back to designated hitter.

I'm kidding, of course.....kind of.
