WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) — Carroll County Sheriff Ken Tregoning says he will not seek re-election to a fifth term next year.

Tregoning announced his decision in an email Thursday. He was first elected sheriff in 1998. The sheriff’s office is the primary law enforcement agency in Carroll County.

Tregoning served four years in the Marine Corps and 31 years with Maryland State Police before becoming sheriff.
