Woman Hit, Killed In Md. Grocery Store Parking Lot

POTOMAC, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police say an 81-year-old woman was hit and killed while walking in a Potomac grocery store parking lot.

Police say Shirley Stearman of Potomac was walking from her car to the Giant Food store on Tuckerman Lane on Sunday afternoon when she was hit.

Fire and Rescue workers already at the grocery store on an unrelated call began assisting immediately. Stearman was taken to Suburban Hospital but later died of her injuries.

Police say Stearman was hit by an Acura MDX that made a left turn at the end of a parking aisle.

The crash is still under investigation. Authorities say cameras in the parking lot may help determine the cause of the crash.
