Glen Burnie Man Arrested, Accused Of Making Fireworks

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) –An investigation is underway after explosions are heard inside a Glen Burnie home. Neighbors were actually thrilled to see the bomb squad and federal agents rush to the scene.

Mike Schuh reports they were thrilled because they tipped off authorities after hearing explosions for quite some time.

WJZ was there as the fire marshal and federal agents loaded evidence found inside a Glen Burnie home into a van.

Neighbors say two blasts rocked the community Sunday night.

“It was like two big, large explosions, and the first one didn’t rock the house too bad but the second one did,” said Bobbie Walker.

Monday morning, they say the man living inside that home was taken away in handcuffs.

“As far as I know, he makes homemade fireworks in his basement and they’re so loud they set off every car alarm in the neighborhood,” said Herb Walker.

Investigators got a search warrant and began removing several items from the home–including a number of weapons.

From Sky Eye Chopper 13, you could see a containment tent set up right in the middle of the street.

“We counted at least 10 pieces of fire equipment here. A small police presence as well,” said Captain Jeff Long.

The Fire Marshal’s Office shut down McGuirk Avenue for more than six hours as they investigated.

Community members say they’ve heard explosions around the neighborhood for a while now, never knowing where they were coming from. Many are just relieved no one was injured.

“This is kind of a scary situation where somebody could have been hurt. Like I said he could hurt somebody else and himself,” Walker said.

Fire officials did not evacuate any homes during during the search.

Investigators are not yet saying if any charges have been filed in this case.

Fire officials say they will not release any more details on this case until their investigation is complete.
