Maryland Zoo Welcomes 4 Baby Warthogs

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Zoo says four common warthogs born last month are now on exhibit.

The piglets, three females and one male, were born June 8 to Kumari, an 8-year-old female warthog. Zoo officials say the piglets weighed between 1.2 and 1.7 pounds at their first veterinary exam, and have grown to five and six pounds each.

Kumari and the piglets are on exhibit now and can be seen half of the day. Kijani, the male and the piglets' father, will be outside for the other half.

The common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a species of wild pig native to Africa.
