National Weather Service Confirms Md. Tornado

CLINTON, Md. (AP) -- The National Weather Service is confirming that a tornado touched down in the Clinton area of Prince George's County.

The weather service announced Tuesday that the tornado touched down Monday evening with peak winds estimated around 60 mph and was rated an EF0, the lowest category on the tornado scale.

The weather service says spotters and members of the public saw and documented the rotating cloud that produced the tornado from northern Charles County to the area where it touched down in southern Prince George's County, near Clinton and Brandywine.

The weather service confirmed the touchdown after reviewing radar observation, eyewitness reports and video and a ground survey.

Only minor damage was noted from this tornado, including flashing peeled from a home and damage to a vinyl fence.
