MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) — Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen is opening an office in Carroll County.
Van Hollen, a Democrat who represents Maryland’s 8th congressional district, is holding a grand opening celebration on Monday evening at his new district office in Mount Airy.
Of Maryland’s eight congressional districts, Van Hollen’s district was one of the most substantially changed by the redistricting process, along with the neighboring 6th congressional district once held by former Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, a Republican.
Van Hollen’s district had been almost entirely in Montgomery County, prior to changes in the state’s congressional map approved by the Maryland General Assembly in 2011.
The changes brought the 8th congressional district up into large portions of Frederick and Carroll counties, which had been in Bartlett’s district.
Bartlett lost his re-election bid last year.
