Child Struck By Train In Middle River Identified

MIDDLE RIVER, Md. (WJZ)-- Baltimore County police are investigating a report of a person struck by a train in Middle River. It took a day but they found the 10-year-old who was hit by that train.

Police say it happened Sunday morning near Eastern Avenue and Tidewater Lane.

When they arrived on the scene, they discovered blood and clothing on the tracks--but they were not initially able to locate a victim. They also found a driver's license belonging to Randolph L. Smith, who they later determined was the victim's father.

Police now say that Tyler Eugene Smith was the boy who was struck by the train.

Smith, Tyler's father, took him to the hospital but told officials there that Tyler had fallen off of playground equipment. Tyler later admitted that he had been hit by a train.

He suffered serious injuries and is expected to recover.
