Jason Butt, Ravens Insider for Scouts.com joined the Glenn Younes show tonight to talk about the Ravens Training Camp.
First Jason gave some inside information on some unknown Ravens receivers. Jason started off talking about LaQuan Williams’ impressive practice today. “He was dealing with a shoulder bruise. Came back today and caught just about everything thrown his way.” Jason then commented on how Williams is coming into this season under the radar. “Today reminded me why he’s been on this roster for the past few seasons. LaQuan’s the kind of guy for the past few years; for whatever reason, gets lost in the shuffle.”
Glenn is really high on Deonte Thompson coming into this season. He asked Jason his take on Thompson. “I’m extremely high on him…He might be the fastest player on the roster.” Jason also commented on Thompson’s growth as a player, “The guy is opening up with every practice.”
Glenn then asked Jason if he expects the Ravens to make a move for a free agent receiver or if they will stand pat with what they have. “I think they’re going to wait and see like they did in 2011 with Lee Evans. Let them play it out in the preseason and if they struggle maybe go out and get somebody.”
Glenn and Jason wrapped up the discussion by talking about the signing of Vonta Leach. “This is a move they had to make. Reality is that even with Pitta on the roster they probably need him because Kyle Jusczyk isn’t ready yet. He has the potential to be a pretty good NFL Fullback but in terms of being the lead blocker…he’s not ready yet.”
