Remains Of Korean War POW Returning Home

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The remains of a soldier from Hagerstown who died in a prison camp during the Korean War are being returned home for burial.

The Herald Mail reports U.S. Army Pvt. Heren Blevins, 19, was wounded and taken prisoner in December 1950. Fellow prisoners of war told military officials after the war that Blevins died a month later of malnutrition.

Blevins' body remained in North Korea until the 1990s, when the country gave the United Nations 208 boxes said to contain the remains of U.S. servicemen still unaccounted for after the war.

Officials with the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel say they will receive Blevins' remains Saturday at Dulles International Airport and a funeral and burial with full military honors will be held Tuesday.
