2 Hurt When Horse-Drawn Buggy Collides With Motorcycles

CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. (AP) -- Authorities in St. Mary's County say two motorcyclists were injured in a crash with a horse-drawn buggy on a road in Charlotte Hall.

The county sheriff's office says a buggy trying to turn left from the shoulder of state Route 6 on Thursday pulled into the path of two motorcycles.

The sheriff's office says Donald Fridell's motorcycle hit the horse and he was thrown into a ditch and Lawrence Jones, 81, was thrown onto the road.

Fridell, 52, was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital with life threatening injuries and Jones was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening. The buggy operator complained of hand pain, but refused treatment.

The sheriff's office says there's no indication that speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
