National Park Service Creates Website For Teachers

HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The National Park Service is launching a new website for teachers that will provide lesson plans and resources about science and historic places in national parks throughout the country.

National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis unveiled the new website Thursday at a middle school in Hyattsville. He joined a social studies class as they traveled virtually to the Grand Canyon for a lesson with national park rangers.

Jarvis says the park service can be a provider of "place-based education" and to share information with those who may not be able to visit in person.

Organizers say the site will provide distance learning programs and professional development opportunities for teachers. It will provide materials relating to more than 125 different subjects. It's searchable by location, keyword and subject.
