CRISFIELD, Md. (AP) — Crisfield Police say the town’s former police chief has been arrested on theft and firearms charges.

Norman Swift III, 58, was arrested late Sunday near an auto body shop. Officers say a truck at the shop had been broken into and that stolen items were found in Swift’s vehicle. Police also say a revolver and rifle were found in Swift’s truck.

Swift is held on a $25,000 bond.

Swift resigned as mayor of the police department in 1990 and served a year in jail on theft offenses then.
