Prince George’s Officer Fatally Shoots Man After Foot Chase

CALVERTON, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County police say a man was fatally shot by an officer after a chase.

Officers responded to Twin Lakes Drive around 2 a.m. Wednesday after police say a 911 caller reported hearing a woman screaming for someone to get off of her. Police say officers found the woman, and a man at the scene ran from officers.

After a brief foot chase, police say the man was approaching a fence. Authorities say the man refused to obey several commands from the officer. Police say the officer, fearing for his life, fired his weapon, killing the man.

Police say no weapons have been recovered from the scene.

The officer, a seven-year veteran, is on routine administrative leave.
