Man Accused Of Killing Woman Competent For Trial
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- A man accused of fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend's mother and wounding the girlfriend and her sister has been found competent to stand trial.
A Wicomico County Circuit Court judge ruled on 20-year-old Myles Lyons' status on Friday after receiving a report on him from the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Lyons has been charged with first-degree murder and numerous other offenses in the Nov. 27 attacks in Salisbury. Police say 39-year-old Lakisha Jackson died after being shot and stabbed. Officers say her pregnant daughter, 17-year-Nicole Jackson, and Nicole's sister, 18-year-old Tyisha Jackson, were also shot.
Authorities say Nicole Jackson's baby was later delivered safely.
The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that Lyons' trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 22.
