PASADENA, Md. (WJZ)—A Pasadena man was shot and killed outside his friend’s house. Now, one year later, his family says they are still struggling to find justice for their son.
Meghan McCorkell has more from a candlelight vigil held Sunday night.
One person has been charged in the death of Matthew Morrow. But his family says five others were involved.
“We know that he lives on in us and that we’ll see him again one day,” a loved one said.
Prayers and a sea of candles surround a family still overwhelmed with grief.
“They didn’t take one life that night. They devastated an entire family and community,” said Ed Morrow, victim’s father.
Morrow, 21, had dreams of opening his own gym. All those dreams were shattered last year when he was killed in a drive-by shooting outside a friend’s Pasadena home.
Morrow was standing outside the home when a shooter in a stolen SUV opened fire, hitting him in the chest.
Ronald Lee McLeod, 19, pleaded guilty to pulling the trigger, killing Morrow and injuring his friend.
Investigators say five other teens were inside the SUV, but they have not been charged in Morrow’s death.
Four of them are already behind bars facing charges in other crimes, including armed robbery, assault and rape.
“We went to court over 50 something times in the last year in horror to see what they were all involved in,” said Carla Morrow, victim’s mother.
Anne Arundel County Police Chief Kevin Davis says he’s committed to taking violent repeat offenders off the streets.
“We need to hold those folks accountable as soon as we can so they don’t turn into folks that end of taking somebody’s life,” Davis said.
Ed and Carla Morrow say they will keep going to court.
“We want them to see our faces. We want them to see the impact they’ve had on a family, a community,” Ed Morrow said.
And they won’t stop until they get justice for their son.
Under a plea agreement, McLeod is expected to spend at least 50 years behind bars. He will be sentenced in January.
