Alleged Md. Arson Leader Expected To Plead Out

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A prosecutor says the alleged leader of a youthful arson gang in western Maryland is working out a plea deal.

Tyler Murray, 21, of Williamsport had a hearing Monday in Hagerstown on an unrelated charge of malicious destruction of property.

The judge agreed to consolidate that charge with a case alleging 82 offenses including arson, malicious destruction and malicious burning.

Assistant State's Attorney Michele Hansen says she expects all charges to be resolved in a plea agreement Nov. 4.

Murray's attorney declined to comment on the case.

Murray and seven other young adults were charged last spring in 40 fires that damaged barns, vehicles and garages.

Murray allegedly taunted investigators with spray-painted messages, including one reading, "catch me if you can."

Three of the defendants have already pleaded out.
