Man Rescued From Trench After Backhoe Bucket Falls

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Officials say a man was rescued after a two-ton backhoe bucket fell over the trench he was working in at a Frederick construction site.

Police and fire officials were called to the site at Prospect Hall, the former site of St. John Regional Catholic School, on Thursday.

Doug Brown, spokesman for the Division of Fire and Rescue Services, says the man was working in the trench when the bucket fell from a backhoe.

Brown says the man was freed from the trench before rescue workers arrived and was flown from the scene because of the potential for serious internal injuries.
