CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — The Allegany County Board of Education has reached agreement with several law enforcement agencies to staff school.

The nine security officers will serve in rotation with the mission of reducing and preventing school-related violence and crime.

Board member Mike Llewellyn tells The Times-News of Cumberland that he expects the schools to be fully staffed after Christmas break.

The officers will include one Frostburg police officer, one sheriff’s deputy, two Cumberland police officers, three retired state troopers hired by the school board and two sheriff’s deputies in rotation in outlying schools.
