No. 8 Maryland Women Rout Texas Southern 100-59

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Maryland coach Brenda Frese has been hoping to get some help offensively for All-American Alyssa Thomas.

She got a lot of it in the eighth-ranked Terrapins' 100-59 rout of Texas Southern on Friday in the San Juan Shootout.

Thomas did her part with 23 points and had 10 rebounds. Freshman Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added a season-high 17 points, hitting seven of her nine shots, including three 3-pointers. Brene Moseley added nine points and nine assists.

"Everyone contributed and that's what you want to see at this time of year," Frese said. "Really proud of our point guards with 17 assists. We felt like we controlled game the whole time. Credit Texas Southern because they came out strong in the second half. I was really proud of how we responded to that."

Maryland (6-1) led just 13-10 with 12:30 left in the first half before going on a 15-4 run over the next 3 minutes to take command. Walker-Kimbrough got hot from outside to fuel the spurt.

The Terrapins led 54-29 at the half with Thomas scoring 18 points in the first 20 minutes.

"We played our game from start to finish," Thomas said. "We know we can play on both ends of the floor and that's what we want to do every single game. We definitely did that today and just have to keep getting better."

The Terrapins will play Ohio on Saturday.

Jazzmin Parker scored 23 points to lead the Lady Tigers (3-3). She was the only double-digit scorer for the team.
