Md. Jail Inmate Accuses Second Inmate Of Assault

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- An inmate at the Frederick County jail is accusing a fellow inmate of assaulting him.

The Frederick News-Post reports that Marcus Anthony Dutton alleges that he required surgery after being struck in the face last month by a man who was in a cellblock with him.

Dutton filed an application for a statement of charges on Nov, 22, and a District Court commissioner placed charges against Curtis Alexander Brown that day.

Maryland's District Court permits citizens to file applications for charges against each other. District Court commissioners then determine whether there's probable cause for charges based on the statement of facts.

Brown's public defender asked a judge to lower Brown's bail, arguing that correctional officers didn't bring charges against either man. The judge denied the request.
